Düden Waterfall Boat Tour: Seeing the Falls from the Sea in Antalya

Pirate boat in front of the Düden waterfall seen from the sea

There are not many places in the world where a river drops straight off a cliff into the sea. The Lower Düden waterfall in Antalya is one of them, and the best way to see it is from the deck of a boat. Our crew has been sailing past it for 25 years, and guests still gasp every single time. Here is everything you need to know about a Düden waterfall boat tour and seeing the falls from the sea.

What is the Lower Düden waterfall?

The Düden river flows through Antalya and, at Lara, reaches the edge of the coastal cliffs. From there it drops about 40 metres straight into the Mediterranean. From land you see the top of the fall; from the sea you see the whole curtain of water crashing into the waves, with mist drifting across the cliff face. On sunny days, the spray often creates rainbows, which makes it one of the most photographed spots on the Antalya coast.

Which Düden waterfall boat tour is right for you?

Pirate boat tour

The Pirate boat tour leaves Konyaaltı Fishermen's Shelter at 10:00. After a 30-minute swim in Turtle Bay, the boat heads for the Düden waterfall area, where an open-buffet lunch is served around 12:00. Then comes a swim break of about an hour near the falls, before a final swim stop off the Lara hotel coast and the return to Konyaaltı at around 16:00. It is a lively, family-friendly day with a foam party.

Relax boat tour

The Relax boat tour is the calmer way to see the falls, without a loud party. The route includes the Düden waterfall at Düdenpark, the Lara Bay caves, a coastal grotto and several swim stops, with about five hours on the water. It is perfect for couples, older guests and anyone who wants to enjoy the scenery in peace.

Both tours start from €35 per adult, including round-trip hotel transfer, and prices can change by season. Not sure which one fits you? See our tour comparison.

Swimming near the Lower Düden waterfall

Swimming with a waterfall thundering in the background is something you don't forget. A few things to know:

  • Swim stops are in open water near the fall, not under it.
  • The crew decides where and when it is safe to swim, depending on the conditions that day.
  • Use the ladder to get in and out of the water.
  • Children swim only with an adult. Our guide to boat tours with kids has more safety tips.

Photo tips for the Düden waterfall

  • Protect your phone: the spray and mist reach further than you think. A waterproof pouch is the single best thing you can bring.
  • Look for rainbows: on sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist. Move around the deck to find the best angle with the sun behind you.
  • Include the boat: a shot with the bow or rail in the foreground gives scale to the 40-metre drop.
  • Try video: a few seconds of slow-motion footage captures the power of the water better than a still photo.
  • Wipe your lens often: fine spray quickly blurs photos.

Best time for a Düden waterfall boat tour

Time of day

On the Pirate tour, you reach the waterfall area around lunchtime, when the sun is high. That is great for bright, colourful photos and, on sunny days, for spotting rainbows in the spray. Because lunch and a swim break happen in the area, you also have plenty of time to enjoy the view rather than just passing by.

Time of year

Our main season runs from May to October. June and September are favourites for comfortable temperatures, while August has the warmest sea, typically around 28–29 °C, ideal for that swim break. Our month-by-month guide has the details.

Short Düden waterfall trips from Kaleiçi harbour

If you are staying in the old town and only have an hour or two, local boats from the old Roman harbour in Kaleiçi also run short trips to the Lower Düden waterfall and back. We don't operate these trips, but we have written an independent guide to Kaleiçi harbour short boat trips. If you want a full day with lunch, swimming and hotel transfer, our tours are the better choice.
